Mountain View Arts Alliance

Governmental funds are decreasing each year,

while the need for The Art Place facility is ever increasing!

The Mountain View Arts Alliance will lend assistance to maintain and

create a cultural community in East Cobb

Mission

The mission of the Mountain View Arts Alliance is to serve as a support group for fund-raising, programming and facility input to the staff of The Art Place; to assist Cobb County in making our community a more desirable place to live by promoting and offering multi-disciplinary arts opportunities for the general public; and to promote and nurture arts and cultural endeavors in the East Cobb Community.

History

The Mountain View Arts Alliance (MVAA), was created in 1993 to assist with offering programs to the community in the East Cobb area of Cobb County.

The home of the MVAA is The Art Place-Mountain View, a county-operated arts facility located in East Cobb.  Volunteers assisting with programs at The Art Place created the MVAA as a non-profit support organization for the arts center and the surrounding area of East Cobb.  As a non-profit organization, the MVAA could create its own programs, assist with TAP programs, lend assistance with capital projects needed for the center and offer support for new projects.

Letter from the President

Mountain View Arts Alliance was established in 1993 as a volunteer support group for the arts in Cobb County.  Membership in MVAA is open to anyone who is interested in supporting the arts in East Cobb.  The MVAA board is the governing body of the arts alliance and consists of up to 15 volunteer members who have agreed to donate their time and talents in support of the arts at TAP.  Members of the board direct the activities of MVAA, plan programs for the upcoming year, volunteer at events, approve expenditures, and function in other ways as requested by the coordinator of TAP.  We welcome your input through comment cards, by speaking to a board member and by attending meetings or joining our group.

We appreciate your invaluable support for our activities here at TAP and welcome your suggestions for new programs.  Together we can make this a great place for arts education, entertainment, enjoyment and enlightening experiences.

David Patterson

President, MVAA

MVAA SPECIAL EVENTS

Dinner Theatre Series
During February and March, over two or three weekends, a gourmet meal with wine, appetizers and a play, or dessert, coffee and a play are presented.  There is a silent auction during the February dinner show. These weekends are the biggest income producers for MVAA, funding much of the activities for the rest of the year.
***Vegetarian option available upon request.  Please call The Art Place in advance for a vegetarian meal.***

College Juried Exhibit

This event, held in the Spring, is cosponsored by MVAA and offers college art students in all visual media the opportunity to enter art work for judging and monetary awards.  During this event students also offer artwork for sale.  MVAA supports this event by compensating the judges, providing the monetary awards and providing refreshments for the gallery opening.

Summer Stars Outdoor Concert Series

At the request of the local community, MVAA offers free outdoor concerts at The Art Place's Amphitheatre.  The series includes performances by regional artists and a musical performed by area high school students and rising college freshmen.  Gift Certificates are available.

St. Nick's Café

Held annually the first weekend in December, this event features a light breakfast or lunch and a holiday performance with stories, singing and dancing.  The event concludes with a visit from Santa and presentation of a small memento to each child.

Empty Bowl Brunch

This event, held the second weekend in December, features unique, hand-thrown bowls made by TAP pottery teachers, students and staff, and donated to MVAA.  Patrons select bowls for gifts or personal use, and enjoy a lunch of soup or chili.  Proceeds from this event are donated to local charities.

Arts Scholarship

MVAA offers a scholarship annually to students of visual or performing arts in an accredited institution of higher learning.  A copy of the scholarship criteria and application process may be obtained from any MVAA board member.  In addition a scholarship has been established by the board of MVAA in memory of Jefferey Armstrong Patterson, a photographic arts student at The Art Institute of Atlanta.  Donations for either scholarship in any amount are welcomed.

Other Activities

MVAA sponsors Aspiring Artists class and show for elementary-aged children, Art of the Art Teacher show for art teachers of Cobb County, Theatre Camps for children, Visual Arts Camp for high school students; and provides workshops, stipends, and funds for needed expenditures at The Art Place-Mountain View.  Please consider volunteering with us to make our center a better place to enjoy the arts.
